According to the Social Security Administration, your Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) from two years ago is used to determine your current Medicare premiums. This means that capital gains realized in a single year can affect Medicare premiums for up to a full year, specifically two years in the future, through the Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA).
